Dayuling High Mountain Oolong (大禹嶺高山烏龍) is among one of the most sought-after teas for any tea drinker. As the highest-grown oolong tea in the world (2,300-2,600 meters), Dayuling Oolong is produced in very limited quantities and only harvested twice each year (late May to mid-June for spring and October for winter). Dayuling Oolong boasts an exceptionally fragrant and full-bodied flavour profile as a result of the High Mountain thin air and alpine conditions.

Dayuling, or Yu the Great Mountain (named after Yu the Great of ancient China, who was a legendary Emperor reputable for “taming the flood”), is located in the Central Mountain range at the junction point of Nantou County, Hualien County and Taichung County of Taiwan. It is located on the highest point along the Central Cross-Island Highway that connects east and west of the island. With the reforestation and conservation efforts of the Taiwanese government, there are many higher altitude Dayuling tea gardens that have been closed down, so there are not many tea gardens that truly produce Dayuling Oolongs today.

With an alpine climate at a high altitude, Dayuling terroir is shrouded in mist all year long, with an average temperature below 20°C. Temperature can cross a wide spectrum between day and night and frosting is common during winter times. Under these weather conditions, along with rich mineral deposits and organic matter in the soils, Dayuling Oolong tea leaves grow extra slowly, produce high amounts of polyphenols, amino acids and pectin content, all giving the tea a very extraordinary sweet and floral flavour. Our Dayuling Oolong is lightly oxidized with zero roasting in order to preserve its original freshness and high-altitude aroma, with flavours that linger in your mouth like a bouquet of spring flowers.
